The federal government has launched the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program, a temporary initiative running through December 31, 2027, designed to help eligible beneficiaries access key weight-loss medications for a flat, predictable fee.
As your independent community pharmacy, we are fully set up to process these prescriptions and help you navigate the requirements.
What It Costs
- $50 flat copay for a 30-day supply.
- No deductibles apply (the $50 payment does not count toward your standard Part D deductible or out-of-pocket maximum).
- Consistent pricing regardless of your income level or low-income subsidy status.
Who is Eligible?
To qualify for the $50 flat rate through this program, you must meet the following criteria:
- Part D Enrollment: You must be enrolled in a Medicare Part D plan (standalone or via Medicare Advantage).
- Weight Management Focus: You do not already have coverage for a GLP-1 drug through your current plan. You must not have Type 2 diabetes, moderate-to-severe sleep apnea, or MASH/fatty liver disease (as those are often covered under standard Part D).
- Clinical Criteria: You must be 18 or older and meet specific baseline Body Mass Index (BMI) and health history requirements (such as a BMI of 35+, or a lower BMI with comorbid conditions like high blood pressure or prediabetes).
How to Get Started
Because this program is processed outside of standard Part D benefits using a specialized central processor, your doctor must submit specific clinical documentation.
- Talk to your doctor to see if you meet the program’s BMI and health criteria.
- Have your prescriber send your prescription to us, ensuring they specify the exact covered formulation (like the Zepbound® KwikPen®).
- Bring your Medicare Part D card to our pharmacy counter, and our team will handle the rest of the specialized billing setup for you.
